School Choice

E3 – Common Application: The implementation of a Common Application, as led by E3, is the first-ever collaborative charter school effort focused on improving access to school choice for city school parents and increasing enrollment in charter schools. This initiative aims to enroll 5,400 additional city children in high-performing charter schools, with the belief that 85% of graduates will be capable and prepared for college, career, or workforce.

Building Excellent Schools – BES Fellowship: Through the BES Fellowship, highly motivated individuals dedicated to improving urban education participate in a year of comprehensive training that prepares them to design, find, and lead a high performing charter school. One hundred training days are filled with rich content on school culture, instructional leadership, strategic management, financial management, governance, and community relations. Additional elements include: observing 45 of the best charters in the country, decoding the intentionality behind leader decisions, two-month-long residencies under the supervision of an experienced leader, coaching and support for Board development, and charter application writing. This Grant will recruit a high capacity individual to found and lead a high-achieving, college preparatory charter school in Rochester, New York. The ultimate goal is that the proposed charter school opens in August of 2020.
